2011 Award Winners
Congratulations to the winners of the 2011 AHP Canada Awards! The awards were announced at the AHP Canada Regional Conference in April in Ottawa, ON.
Myrna Fyfe, former head of the University Hospital Foundation, was the recipient of the 2011 Mentoring Award for outstanding commitment to mentoring others in the fundraising industry.

And, for the second year in a row, West Park Healthcare Centre Foundation was honored with a 2011 Culture of Philanthropy Award for a spirit of giving among its staff, physicians and volunteers, and for last year achieving its most successful internal fundraising campaign.

About the AHP Canada Awards
AHP Canada recognizes health care philanthropy programs and professionals for extraordinary work and exceptional skills. Outstanding work is recognized at the AHP Canada Regional Conference in conjunction with the Health Care Public Relations Association Hygeia Awards. AHP members may nominate a colleague or nominate their own program.
There are four AHP Canada Awards:
Culture of Philanthropy Award
This award is presented to an organization that has demonstrated overall excellence in creating a culture of philanthropy, including:
- Awareness Raising. Have demonstrated creative ways to raise awareness of the importance of philanthropy to its associated hospital/health care provider.
- Stakeholder Engagement. Have successfully engaged stakeholders, which has generated positive outcomes.
- Organizational Commitment. Have created a culture so that people at all levels of the organization's associated hospital/health care provider understand philanthropy.
- Increased Profile & Financial Support. Have created a "culture of philanthropy" which has had a positive effect on their ability to raise money.
Best Practices Award
This award is presented to an organization that has demonstrated excellence in:
- Governance & Leadership. Have provided outstanding governance, and staff and volunteer leadership in the community and the fundraising industry.
- Donor-Centered Programs. Have initiated donor-centred programs to meet the community's needs.
- Program Efficiency and Effectiveness. Have demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness through ROI (return on investment) and cost per dollar raised.
- Leadership. Have motivated staff and volunteers to take on leadership positions in professional organizations and/or the community.
Mentoring Award
This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to mentoring others in the fundraising industry. Colleagues are nominated by providing the following:
- List of activities undertaken by the nominee to mentor others, including particular areas of expertise provided by the nominee and time spent on each activity.
- Letters of reference from at least two other fundraising professionals who have been mentored by the nominee.
- Summary of the nominee's worthiness of this award.
Leadership Award
This award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her community, institution and the fundraising profession. Individuals who merit this award will have demonstrated exemplary leadership, dedication and vision.
