ASSOCIATION FOR HEALTHCARE PHILANTHROPY OPPOSES LIMITS ON CHARITABLE TAX DEDUCTIONS

President Obama's Fiscal Year 2011 draft budget, released February 1, 2010, has brought back to the table a proposal to limit the tax deductibility of charitable giving for higher-income families to 28 percent. The proposal was first introduced in February 2009 as a part of the President's Fiscal Year 2010 draft budget.

On March 4, 2009, AHP responded by releasing a Position Statement expressing its disapproval of the President's proposal.

This continued attack on charities is one that health care philanthropy can't afford and which will diminish the ability of nonprofit hospitals to serve the increasing needs of U.S. citizens.

It is of particular concern that the budget focuses on the "disparity" afforded philanthropic Americans who have chosen to share their wealth to the betterment of society and the short-sighted nature of the Administration's proposal.

On February 5, 2010, AHP, along with a coalition of other concerned nonprofit organizations, sent a letter to the President expressing its opposition to the 2011 proposal.
