Requirements:
  • Significant experience in the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts, ideally within a complex healthcare institution, academic medical center, scientific research organization, or research-intensive institution of higher education;
  • Entrepreneurial and creative approach to fundraising; ability to create an atmosphere charged with energy and foster action for the Laboratory’s visionary research programs and projects;
  • Established track record of securing philanthropic support from diverse constituencies not previously affiliated with the institution;
  • Ability to develop relationships with volunteers and esteemed medical leaders, scientists, and faculty;
  • Capacity to elicit and quickly grasp medical and scientific concepts, and synthesize this information into an articulate and compelling case;
  • Intellectual curiosity; a passion for discovery; and,
  • A belief in the promise of basic and translational research.

Responsibilities:

The Foundation of UMDNJ, the independent not-for-profit organization that raises private sector funds to support UMDNJ, seeks to expand support of spinal cord research with the newly created position of Director of Development for the SCI Laboratory.

The Director will:

  • collaborate with esteemed physicians and scientists, staff, and volunteers on diverse fundraising initiatives that support basic and translational research;
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major gift prospects and develop strategies for identifying and cultivating a pipeline of new prospects for research priorities; and,
  • Report to the Foundation Vice President.
