- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in liberal arts or scientific field.
- Minimum of ten years fund-raising experience, preferably in a reserch setting.
- Demonstrated record of success in major gift fund raising.
- Capital campaign experience desirable.
- Experience in all aspects of philanthropic fund development, including working knowledge of rules and regulations governing charitable estate planning.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and staff a volunteer advisory committee for a non-profit organization.
- Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate work with varied constituencies, including volunteers, physicians, patients and donors.
- Excellent writing and verbal skills, including ability to make presentations. Computer proficiency, including expertise in Word.

- Oversees all aspects of philanthropic fund development for assigned programs and projects for the Scripps Translational Science Institute (STSI)/Genomic Medicine program.
- Serves as Foundation representative on specified advisory committees, administrative and management groups that formulate policies and decisions for STSI/Genomic Medicine programs.
- Cultivates and solicits major gifts ($500K+) from individuals, foundations, and businesses for assigned priority projects, programs, or campaigns, with or without volunteer assistance as appropriate.
- Provides stewardship to all major donors within areas of responsibility.
- Establishes regular communication with key individuals from hospitals, centers of programs to identify specific operational, capital and endowment programs requiring private support.
- Represents Scripps and presents institutional case and funding priority specifics to civic groups and other public and private organizations.
