WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 26, 2009) – The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) has selected Ann Thompson-Haas, FAHP, of Oakland, Calif., to receive its highest professional recognition for distinguished leadership.
AHP, whose more than 4,800 members direct philanthropic programs for 2,000 nonprofit health care providers in North America, annually presents its prestigious Harold J. (Si) Seymour International Award to a fundraiser whose career reflects exemplary standards of excellence in fostering volunteerism and philanthropy. Ms. Thompson-Haas, FAHP, is scheduled to receive the award Sept. 26 during the association’s international conference in San Francisco.
“At this challenging time for our economy, philanthropy is called upon to play an increasingly critical role in sustaining the ability of not-for-profit hospitals to deliver quality health care to American communities,” said William C. McGinly, president and CEO of AHP. “It is fitting that this year we pay homage to Ann Thompson-Haas, FAHP, who has worked tirelessly for more than two decades to support hospitals and health care systems of all sizes.”
In California, Ms. Thompson-Haas, FAHP, has served as a regional vice-president for development for the St. Joseph Health System and as CEO of the Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation that provides health and community welfare assistance to members of the film and TV industry. She is a past-president of Women in Film, a former board member of several San Francisco Bay Area arts organizations and worked in leadership and development at the University Hospitals of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Currently principal and senior consultant with Larkwood Consulting, LLC in Oakland, she provides counsel and training in all areas of philanthropic resource development as well as team dynamics, leadership and career management to clients across North America. An award-winning writer and frequent speaker for AHP, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and local organizations, Ms. Thompson-Haas, FAHP, holds memberships in the American Society for Training and Development and the Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation.
AHP’s Seymour Award honors the memory of a trailblazer in the world of philanthropy whose career spanned a half-century of work on behalf of the National War Fund during World War II, Harvard University, youth and educational groups, health organizations, and numerous community service projects. His book Designs for Fundraising, published in 1966, remains the bible of philanthropic fundraising to this day.
