Regional Director's Update

Rick Bragga
Regional Director

It’s a new year and there are many fabulous AHP related activities on the horizon.

In the education arena, Julie Cox, CFRE, and her committee are putting together a great regional conference May 22-24, 2005 in Baltimore, Md. That will be followed by the ever-popular AHP Madison Institute for Healthcare Philanthropy from July 9 through Thursday, July 14, 2005.

Maybe you want to extend the knowledge of your physicians, board members, support staff or other key volunteers. How about bringing them to Baltimore for the one day AHP Primer on health care fundraising? Any attendee will surely go home with a new found understanding and appreciation for what you do and how it’s done. Merv Webb, FAHP, has assembled an all-star faculty to present this course on the Sunday before the regional conference starts.

The year will close out with the AHP Annual International Educational Conference in one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In between are a number of audio/web conferences — one of which will surely catch your interest. A recent audio/web conference had more than 500 people participating from over 150 sites.

Feeling like you’ve had enough education and want to test your knowledge and your skills? Lisa Hillman, CFRE, regional chair of education and certification, has two opportunities – CFRE and FAHP.

And finally, I would encourage you to use the best educational resource available anywhere – the AHP Directory and Buyers’ Guide. Sure you can do a broadcast question to a list serve but how does that compare with calling one of your colleagues and having an interactive conversation. It’s like a yellow pages of experts and consultants except the majority are doing the same work as you every day. Call a colleague today and take advantage of one of the best benefits of AHP membership – the member network.

See you in Baltimore – if not before...

Rick Bragga, JD, FAHP
Regional Director

Is this the year you do something for yourself?

Why not make this the year you plan to achieve your certification by the CFRE Professional Certification Board. The hardest part? Deciding to do it! Once you decide, pick the date you want to take the exam. Then, work backwards to complete your application by the application deadline.

What are the benefits of achieving your CFRE?

  1. Knowing you’ve joined a dedicated corps of professionals who strive for excellence
  2. Recognition from your colleagues and your institution
  3. Personal and professional growth during the credentialing process
  4. And most of all, the personal knowledge that you’ve set a challenging professional goal for yourself – and achieved it.

The CFRE exam will be given at the AHP Annual International Educational Conference in Vancouver, BC on October 19, 2005. Application deadline is August 19, 2005.

For additional exam dates and application deadlines, check out AHP’s Web site at http://www.ahp.org/certification/index.php. And when you decide which dates, please let us know. There are many AHP members who can provide cheerleading and support as you prepare for your new achievement.

There are only 76 CFREs in the AHP Mid-Atlantic region out of 634 members. Why don’t you join them?

Chair, Certification
