Director's Remarks

Thomas S. Paullin, CFRE
Regional Director

Summer is upon us and I hope you are in the midst of a successful year personally and professionally. Keep up the good work for your institution, be sure you make time for fun outdoors with family and friends, and consider joining colleagues at the International Conference in San Francisco in October, or the Summer Institute in Madison.

Congratulations and thanks are due to Steve Meyerson and his Mid-Atlantic Region Conference Committee for delivering an outstanding networking and educational forum in Alexandria. Sam Donaldson and Rudy Giuliani on successive days - how many national conferences of much larger organizations can draw that kind of starpower?

We are excited about the opportunity to co-host next year's regional conference with the Southeast Region. Start making plans now to join us in Myrtle Beach on June 27-29, 2004. Think about coming early, staying late, and bringing the family. Besides being a great place to learn in a brand new hotel, the venue has many opportunities for sun, shopping, golf, entertainment, and water sports. Watch the AHP website for details in the months ahead.

I encourage you to think seriously about certification. Take some time and look into becoming a CFRE-or if you have already attained that certification, the FAHP designation is the logical next step.

Why not reach out to local colleagues and attend or start an AHP Roundtable? It's ok to start small, or start big - main thing is to get started. It can be as simple as calling or e-mailing a few colleagues and meeting for breakfast to discuss topics of mutual interest. There are no limitations on what you can do to learn and develop new contacts within our Association.

Thanks to those of you who contacted Conference Chair Steve Meyerson and me with your kind words and ideas following the recent conference. I feel real momentum developing and am pleased with the continued interest of our veterans and the talent and enthusiasm of our newcomers.

Tom Paullin
AHP Mid-Atlantic Region Chair
