Regional Director's Update
David Flood
AHP Mid-Atlantic Regional Director |
On behalf of our Association, I continue to thank each and all of you for your past and ongoing involvement in advancing our profession through AHP. Together, the AHP Mid-Atlantic states are coming off a record year in membership growth and charitable giving to the AHP Foundation. Thank you for distinguishing our region as a model of growth and spirit among AHP's national network.
Spring is just around the corner which means it's time for you to make plans for our upcoming regional conference in Williamsburg on May 6-8. You should have already received your conference registration information. Beyond my opinion, the growth of our regional conference suggests that this has become a "must-do" for our constituents. The fact that it is in Williamsburg this year makes it that much more compelling. You are assured of a good time, great networking, and impressive educational offerings within a setting that your entire family will enjoy.
It's been an honor to serve as your regional director. We do important work for our respective institutions, and collectively serve to broaden and strengthen the philanthropic landscape for health care organizations across the country. We do it with passion, and we do it knowing that we're making a difference in the lives of so many in our communities. Thank you for caring to make such a difference.
I look forward to seeing you in Williamsburg.

AHP Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference
May 6-8, 2007, The Williamsburg Lodge, Williamsburg, VA
By Daphne Halpern, FAHP, AHP Mid-Atlantic Region Conference Chair
We all know of donors whose generosity has changed their communities. A gift that funds cutting-edge technology, or a hospital wing, or a piece of new medical equipment can quite literally save lives. Our goal as fundraisers is to convey the life-changing effects their gifts can have: in a very real way, our donors can change history. How appropriate then, to have our 2007 AHP Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in Colonial Williamsburg, the site of rich early American history.
As conference chair, I am proud to work with a committee of 20 health care fundraising professionals who have designed a conference that will provide exceptional educational and networking opportunities, as well as a chance to have some fun! We have recruited nationally known speakers, arranged for time to spend with a variety of specialized vendors and a conference location unparalleled for sights to see and places to go.
Looking through our conference brochure, I know you will find many topics of interest. In addition to our pre-conference Primer workshop, which is a fantastic way to get an overview of the health care fundraising process, there are educational tracks in Annual Giving/Special Topics, Major Gifts/Capital Campaign, Executive Leadership, and Grantsmanship/Planned Giving. The Grantsmanship/Planned Giving track is in response to many of you who have attended other conferences asking for a more comprehensive schedule of these areas of expertise.
So, get out your calendars and your budget dollars! Set aside May 6–8 for the AHP Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia to make some history!
For more information about the AHP Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference, visit the AHP Web site.

| AHP Foundation Annual Fund Update |
By Pamela Maroulis, MPA, AHP Mid-Atlantic Foundation Chair
It was a great year for the 2006 AHP Annual Fund in the AHP Mid-Atlantic region as we built awareness and support. We reached 92% of both our donor and dollar targets – which were very aggressive goals - finishing with 183 donors, and $23,442 pledged. We are proud of the award we received at the AHP International Conference in Orlando for the greatest percentage increase in donors over 2005.
Thank you to all who supported the 2006 AHP Annual Fund. Your gifts will be used to enhance the AHP Resource Information Center's online library, continue funding of the Ask AHP service, and provide scholarships for the AHP International Conference and AHP Madison Institute.
The AHP Mid-Atlantic region has set a goal of $23,000 and 180 donors for the 2007 AHP Annual Fund. The 2007 campaign supports AHP Web-based initiatives and the development of “e-communities.” To learn more about the AHP Annual Fund and the 2007 case for support, please visit the AHP Web site.
All members will be contacted personally and we hope you will consider a gift to directly help the services that benefit us all. I look forward to thanking each of you individually at the regional conference in May.

Membership Report
By John Nolan, AHP Mid-Atlantic Membership Chair
2006 was a banner year for membership in the AHP Mid-Atlantic Region and for AHP as a whole. At the end of December, the AHP membership total was 4,372, which represents an increase of 358 members - the greatest year-over-year increase in AHP history!
The AHP Mid-Atlantic Region began the year with 634 members and we challenged ourselves by establishing a 5% (667) growth target for 2006. As the year progressed, our region experienced significant membership growth each month culminating in December with a record 720 AHP Mid-Atlantic Region members. Our region grew by 86 (13.5%) members which more than doubled our initial target. In recognition of these achievements our region received two awards at the AHP International Conference in Orlando:
1) Highest Percentage of Net Increase in Membership
2) Highest Percentage Goal Achieved
The success of our membership drive could not have been accomplished without the support and cooperation of all our members throughout the region. To those who renewed their membership we say "thank you" and we look forward to your renewal in 2007. To those who became new AHP members in 2006 we say "welcome" and "thank you" and encourage you to renew your membership promptly in 2007. And to ALL of our members we encourage you to reach out to our colleagues in health care philanthropy who you know are NOT currently AHP members and let them know about the benefits of AHP membership and urge them to enroll today. Remember AHP needs YOU as much as YOU need AHP!
If you have any questions about your membership, or have a potential member referral, please contact me at (908) 668-2025 or jnolan@solarishs.org.
