See You at the Beach!

Thomas S. Paullin, CFRE
Regional Director

Thanks to AHP Mid-Atlantic Conference Chair Sheree Parris Nudd, FAHP and AHP Southeast Co-chair Russell Harris, FAHP, their conference committee, and the AHP staff, we are poised for success at our upcoming AHP Mid-Atlantic/Southeast regional conference June 27-29. The educational program is set, the brand new Marriott hotel is open, your friends are coming and Myrtle Beach is prepared with a wide variety of recreational, entertainment and shopping choices. Now all we need is you.

To register, fill out the form on the blue conference brochure that recently mailed to AHP Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Region members, or use the AHP Web site's electronic registration capability.

Are You Certifiable?

Certification continues to be a priority for AHP and our members. In fact, Ben Franklin, who was our country's first hospital fundraiser, recently wrote me a letter encouraging me to work on my FAHP designation. And I join Mr. Ben Franklin in encouraging those of you who are pondering getting your CFRE or FAHP credentials.

Watch the AHP Web site for coming information about ideas and programs to facilitate your success in getting to the next level of professional certification.

Go Forth and Multiply

Are all the professionals in your shop or health system getting the advantage of AHP? A group membership is a great way to get a price break when more than one person joins.

Do you have a colleagues in another health care institution who is not an AHP member? Call them about AHP, and contact the AHP membership office and put them on the list of prospective members.

When we increase the number of AHP members, we raise the level of professionalism in our field.

The AHP Mid-Atlantic region goal is to reach 607 members by the end of the year - a 6% increase of 2003's year-end total of 580 members. We are off to a good start, 591 members as of March 31. David Flood, membership, is writing to prospective members using lists from various hospital associations within our region. With Dave's leadership, the AHP staff's support and your outreach to other health care fundraising professionals, I am confident that we will reach our goal of 607 members by year end.

Local Knowledge

Craving camaraderie with fellow AHP professionals? Need someone to congratulate you about that big gift that just closed, or to commiserate about the one that got away? "Roundtable" can be any forum that works for you group -- a breakfast, lunch or afternoon meeting. Whatever works in your area. Groups have had success with many formats - with a speaker, a roundtable discussion, an AHP teleconference, a happy hour. There are no limits on when, why, what or how. If no one has taken the initiative in your area, why not you? The AHP office can assist you with mailing labels and advice about making your local event successful.

AHP Foundation/Annual Fund

The 2004 annual fund drive is underway, and calls for AHP Mid-Atlantic region members are scheduled to begin in May and run through June. Early returns show that regions that have already been contacted are responding well and we hope that AHP Mid-Atlantic members will step up and be part of the generous trend that is underway. AHP members will receive two letters, including an informative multi-page letter in advance of a phone call from an IDC representative asking for a commitment to the annual fund. Success in the annual fund is critically important in allowing AHP to offer programs, such as the AHP Resource Information Center, that are highly valued by members.

2005 Conference

Looking ahead to 2005, I know that AHP Mid-Atlantic Region Director-elect Rick Bragga, FAHP, is working with the AHP office to finalize the site and date for our next regional conference. If you have ideas related to the conference site or conference leadership, please contact Rick at richard.bragga@inova.com.
