Regional Director's Update

Post Conference Update

To: All AHP Mid-Atlantic Region Members:

I had the privilege of attending our Regional Conference in Asheville, North Carolina June 11-13.  This gathering was combined with our friends from the Southeast Region to create the largest conference hosted by AHP this year- a combined total of almost 350.

When attending the AHP Board of Directors meeting just prior to the conference, I had the unearned pleasure of fielding many compliments on the attendance, the venue and the array of activities that were planned.  Truth be told, the people who made this happen were a group of outstanding volunteer committee members led by B.J. Harrington, CFRE from Culpeper Regional Hospital.  Please join me in applauding B.J. and the entire Mid-Atlantic Conference Committee for such a memorable and informative few days. It was really well done.

On behalf of Regional Cabinet, I also thank so many of you who made the trek to Asheville to contribute to the conference’s success.

Two notes of upcoming activity in our region, as announced at the conference:

First – Our Regional Cabinet met to discuss a variety of issues related to the continued enhancement of your membership.  One of the vehicles that we will seek to implement is as a pilot program of state-based round table sessions to provide a more local flavor to our activities and our respective networks.  This effort will be led by Lisa Hillman, FAHP from Anne Arundel Health System, who will be working with our current AHP Mid-Atlantic Regional State Representative’s to begin planning.

Second – At our regional breakfast, it was announced that the 2007 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference has been set for May 6th through the 8th, in Williamsburg, Virginia.  This conference will be led by Daphne Halpern, CFRE from the Meridian Health System, who is actively recruiting members who would like to be involved in planning this conference.  Please contact Daphne if you would like to be part of the conference leadership team.

There are many other things happening on the AHP landscape that will begin to translate into your membership shortly.  Among them, an innovative benchmarking initiative, as well as further sophistication of the educational offerings and best practice resources available to you and your member institution.  Be on the lookout for some impressive enhancements- while providing your comments and input as we move along.

In closing, and while I have you on your computer, please enter the web-site at http://www.ahp.org/foundation/pledge-card.php, or reach out to Pam Maroulis at Inova Health System to indicate your pledge to the 2006 AHP Annual Fund.  Our goal is $25,000 for the region with almost $18,000 already pledged.  It would be great to hit this mark early, while providing you the opportunity to fulfill your pledge over the coming months.

Thank you for your continued involvement and assistance in our regional network.

Sincerely,
David L. Flood,
Regional Director, Mid-Atlantic Region
