"Letters from Lisa"

Lisa Kennedy
Regional Director

I see mountains on the horizon…

...in anticipation of the upcoming Rockies & SW Regional Conference, of course, since mountains in Texas are few and far between. Those attending the regional conference in Santa Fe, April 20-22, will taste a sampling of the stellar faculty and curriculum offered at our marquis fundraising training, the AHP Madison Institute. This is a rare opportunity to hear from a collection of these faculty members in a regional setting. Combined with the exceptional talent that abounds in our region, we believe this offering will surpass your expectations. Find time in your schedule to join us!

In other news, our region is being well represented at the AHP International Conference in Philadelphia, PA in October. Kimberly Britton, CFRE, is serving as Vice Chair, AHP International Conference Council, a substantial commitment of time and a testament to her leadership ability. Please join me in thanking Kimberly for her efforts.

In national news, the AHP Board met recently to review our progress as an organization. It was clear during our discussions that great progress has been made toward our goals to:

  1. As the primary provider, deliver education and evidence-based research in health care philanthropy theory and practice to continuously enrich best practices.
  2. Leverage the AHP brand to engage and involve hospital and health care executives in furthering the culture of philanthropy, as measured by 50% of member organizations’ CEOs having philanthropic goals.
  3. Enhance and diversify AHP products and programs, doubling revenue from $3M to $6M by 2010.

I look forward to bringing you the full report at the business meeting in Santa Fe.

Until then, remember Andrew Carnegie’s philosophy on philanthropy: "A man who dies wealthy, dies disgraced." My best wishes for finding those who elect not to die disgraced!

“Magic of Madison” comes to AHP Rockies & Southwest

By Robert A. Glick, AHP Rockies & Southwest conference chair

New Mexico is known as the "Land of Enchantment" and the AHP Rockies & Southwest Regional Conference in Santa Fe, April 20-22, promises to cast a wonderful spell on all who attend. The gathering boasts a strong conference faculty. There are outstanding presenters from throughout the AHP Rockies & Southwest region, a guest from the Mayo Clinic, and six (count them SIX!) members of the renowned AHP Madison Institute for Healthcare Philanthropy. Santa Fe is one of the Rockies and Southwest’s best destinations and conferences there fill quickly, so please register and book your accommodations soon. Come be enchanted by time spent with great friends, by great Southwestern cuisine, and by great teaching about philanthropy!

You can find more details and register online at the AHP Web site.

2007 AHP Annual Fund kicks off!

By Julie Johnson Haffner, CFRE, AHP Foundation chair, AHP Rockies & Southwest

It is spring time -- that time of year when everyone begins to rev up, get moving, and launch new efforts! And the AHP Foundation is doing no less!

This year the AHP Foundation is asking you to support eCommunities, the AHP Resource Information Center (RIC) and scholarships during our 2007 Annual Fund campaign. Here's what you need to know: eCommunities is an exciting collaborative learning tool that builds expertise, improves decision-making and expands connections in the profession. More than a listserve, eCommunities has the ability to share learning and build relationships far and wide.

RIC is the Resource Information Center, far and away the most popular of AHP’s services. It handles over 3,000 requests annually for questions about fundraising and institutional development. We all use it. We all need it.

And, of course, the increasing need for scholarships that keep our members coming for expanded learning opportunities and career growth touches all of us and our staff members. Scholarships help our colleagues learn and grow to meet the demands of health care fundraising.

Won’t you decide now to give? Get moving, and be prepared for when you receive our request for your support of this years’ campaign. We hope all AHP members will make a pledge this year; and discover how good it feels to help our friends and colleagues in a profession that has given us, and our institutions, so much. Read more about this exciting case for support on the AHP web site.

It's spring and time to plant new ideas, start new projects and expect great things come fall! Make your AHP Annual Fund gift today to plant those seeds and enjoy the benefits.

You'll find the pledge card online -- it doesn't get any easier! Your pledge will matter; your gift will make a difference! Decide today and make your gift to the 2007 AHP Annual Fund.

Membership

Hello? Hello? Calling all members…

Are you aware of a health care institution or individual in your area that is not currently a member of AHP? If so, please forward that information to our membership chair, Rick Resnik at rresnik@seton.org. Rick has been compared to a bloodhound and will follow all leads to their finish. That must be why he's so successful in development!

Let's all help him by furnishing those leads!
