The Salima Mawji Memorial Bursary was established in 2026 by Salima’s friends and colleagues to honour her legacy and her service to the field of healthcare philanthropy.  Salima served the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) as a Director of the Hospital Development and Education Fund and as a member of Canada Council.

Applications for the 2026 bursary are closed. We will begin accepting applications again early in 2027.

Selection Criteria

  • Amount of disbursement is determined. 
  • Once applications have been received, AHP International will collate and provide applications to the AHP Canada Council, Chair.   
  • The applications will be reviewed and ranked by a selection committee comprised of the Chair, Vice Chair, and a volunteer from Canada Council. 
  • Selection committee members are ineligible for this award. 
  • Once selection is completed the recipient will be notified by the Chair (or designate) Canada Council both in writing and over the phone. 
  • The successful recipient will receive their award at the Convene Canada Conference through a presentation made at the conference.

Award Conditions

  • AHP Canada Council will have oversight for the selection process. 
  • Applications will be ranked according to the priorities set out in the bursary. 
  • Awards will be paid directly to recipients by the AHP Canada Council Treasurer, from the Bursary entrusted to the Hospital Development and Education Fund of Canada (HDEF).
  • Reimbursement will take place through the provision of expense receipts to AHP Canada Council Treasurer. A cheque will be issued in the name of the individual or organization incurring the expense. 
  • The successful receipient agrees to attend a bursary award presentation at the Convene Canada conference and to be photographed receiving this award and to have this photo shared by email and on social media channels deemed appropriate by AHP or AHP Canada Council. 
  • Eligible Educational Activities: Convene Canada Conference. The successful recipient will use this bursary toward the cost of Convene Canada conference attendance. This may also include attendance at Leading Forward, the Primer or the CFRE course delivered at Convene Canada.
