Investment and Endowment Management

Introduction

In order to manage the health care organization's investment and endowment funds effectively, development professionals must be familiar with a variety of investment styles, understand how to formulate an investment strategy, and be able to choose investment managers and financial consultants. That is why this topic is one of the fundamental educational programs offered by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Foundation and the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP).

This study guide provides development professionals with a brief overview of the complex area of investment management. It explains how endowments differ from other types of investments, discusses the fiduciary responsibility of managing charitable funds, and examines some of the issues involved in investment management. It describes the responsibilities of the trustees, the organization's top management, and the independent auditors and explores some of the steps involved in developing an investment strategy.

The guide recapitulates material covered in the AHP course "Investment and Endowment Management" and points you to additional resources to help you gain yet more detailed knowledge of this subject.
