For 2008, your annual fund donation, in part, will support AHP’s initiative to conduct a Future Study of health care, philanthropy and the health care philanthropy profession in the US and Canada.  It also will continue to support AHP’s Web enabled initiative.

The future of health care is uncertain but one thing is clear: we can expect fundamental change. AHP will explore the possible futures for health care and examine their impact on health care philanthropy including their impact on your institutions, your donors and your profession.

Although we can not know for certain what the health care philanthropy landscape will become, we believe in the importance of knowing the external forces that are emerging and advancing change; and in knowing what needs to be implemented to respond to these changes.

AHP will publish a series of reports in late 2008 that will pinpoint the state of hospitals and health care; what donors will look like in the years ahead; how the profession will evolve; how health care leadership will be involved in philanthropy; and what tools and resources development officers will need to be successful.

The result of this research will provide a proactive approach to the future that responds to a long-term outlook rather than to short-term issues facing health care philanthropy.

How Your Donations will be Used

The funds support AHP's mission to advance health care through philanthropic innovation, education and advocacy.

  • The annual fund will help support research identifying future strategies to influence leaders who make decisions affecting health care development, philanthropy, and AHP.

  • AHP has begun the implementation phase of eCommunities, AHP’s developing online presence of collaborative learning. eCommunities is one portion of AHP’s overall goal of assisting professionals in the creation of a Web enabled organization of online learning with a library of research tools.

  • AHP uses the funds to support the AHP Resource Information Center Library which provides materials, information, and research on a wide array of fundraising and philanthropic topics as well as samples from foundations across the US and Canada.

  • The AHP Foundation also provides scholarships for development professionals to attend AHP education programs.  In 2007, AHP awarded eight $2000 scholarships to AHP members.

"What's the future for our profession?  Who will our donors be?  Who will we be?  The 2008 Annual Fund provides funding for a major "futures" study to help answer these questions.  By giving, you support the future of health care philanthropy for yourself, your colleagues and the people you serve."
