Conference Chair Welcome Letter

William Kiel PhotoOn behalf of the Conference Committee, it is my pleasure to extend a warm invitation to join us at the 2008 AHP Midwest Regional Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. Well known for its famous racetrack, Churchill Downs, it is also home to the Louisville Slugger Museum/Factory, the Frazier International History Museum and an interactive museum dedicated to the unprecedented boxing career of Muhammad Ali. In addition, it is home to this year’s Midwest Conference where we will “Sprint to the Finish…Taking Philanthropy to the Winner’s Circle.”

Our committee members have worked diligently to create an educational curriculum addressing a number of universal principles of philanthropy. Regardless of shop size, this conference will focus on the trends that impact our profession. There will be two tracks: The Art of Philanthropy and The Science of Philanthropy. Our keynote speaker will help us look into the “Future of Philanthropy,” and some of the finest professionals in the Midwest will host small discussion groups that will provide answers to your specific questions. Finally, our plenary session will demonstrate how the art and science of philanthropy worked together seamlessly to achieve one of the largest health care gifts in history. It truly will be a “Sprint to the Finish…Taking Philanthropy to the Winner’s Circle!”

This year’s conference also will offer adequate time for networking and fun. In addition to the opening reception and time to meet with vendors throughout the day, we also will have the traditional “No Host” dinners at some of Louisville’s finest eating establishments. This should give you plenty of time to meet or reconnect with friends and colleagues.

A great city, an exceptional educational offering, a chance to meet new people and learn new ideas, and time to take Philanthropy to the Winner’s Circle…that’s what you’ll find at this year’s conference!

I look forward to greeting you in Louisville, Kentucky on April 27, 2008.

William “Bill” Kiel, CFRE
Conference Chair
