I filled out AHP’s annual survey recently and under “Membership” was asked to choose the primary reason I remain a member of AHP:
- AHP’s programs strengthen my professional development,
- AHP gives me an opportunity to network with my peers,
- AHP promotes fundraising as a profession of merit,
- AHP dues are within my budget, or
- AHP membership looks good on my resume.
“Yes” to all of the above.
Twenty-five years after joining this association, AHP has become one of the defining elements of my life. My closest friends are AHP members scattered around the country. Next to my bed is a copy of The Last Run, a book recommended to me by an AHP friend who knows what I like to read. In Northern California this weekend, I just had dinner at a restaurant recommended by an AHP friend. Another AHP friend just promised to send me a slide presentation on Moves Management for my Board.
The common theme here is that AHP is a special organization made up of sharing and caring people. They are the heart of our organization. AHP membership offers A through E above, but it also offers so much more. If you have not yet volunteered or become involved with AHP, the 2007-2008 Regional Cabinet invites you to become active.

San Diego wildfires update
Four San Diego area hospitals and several nursing homes were evacuated during the October wild fires that affected seven southern California counties. Mountains Community Hospital in Lake Arrowhead, Pomerado Hospital in Poway, Aurora Behavioral Healthcare San Diego and Fallbrook Hospital were temporarily closed, and more than 1,600 medical patients were moved to other facilities.
Scripps Health treated 166 fire-related patients, Sharp Healthcare treated 380 and UCSD Medical Center Regional Burn Center treated at least 16 patients. Scripps and Sharp also provided staff to the area's medical operation center, and hospital medical supplies and cots were dispatched to evacuation sites.
The California Hospital Association has established the Hospital Worker's Fire Relief Fund to assist health care workers who had homes damaged or lost. To contribute, please send checks, payable to the Hospital Workers' Fire Relief Fund, to California Health Foundation & Trust, 1215 K Street, Suite 800, Sacramento, CA 95814. Individual hospitals have also established fire relief funds to support their employees who were affected by the fires. |
