AHP Pacific Regional News
October 2001

The AHP Pacific Regional Cabinet was appointed in September. The AHP Pacific Region thanks them for your willingness to serve AHP and the Pacific Region. The cabinet's role is to assist you, the members of the region, to make your membership in AHP more meaningful.

International Conference

As you all know, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, for the first time in its history, canceled the annual international conference due to the September 11th terrorist attacks. It appears that our event insurance to cover the expenses incurred and the loss of conference net revenue will not cover the loss because the attacks are considered an act of war.

All conference registrants should have received a letter from AHP regarding their conference registration. The association is offering registrants four options, to apply registration fees to AHP's government relations efforts; designate the registration fee as a gift; apply the registration fee to next year's conference; or receive a full refund. AHP must receive your registration fee option form by November 30. If you have not received your letter and form or have any questions, please call Kathy Delaney, Regional Director or the AHP office at 703-532-6243.

AHP's New Look

AHP has a new logo and a newly re-designed web site. Please log on to www.ahp.org to view our great new look. Be sure to check out the Pacific Region's web page which will include our regional newsletter as well as timely updates regarding activity in the region.
Join us in Seattle!

There has been a sea of change in our world and the old methodologies may no longer apply. Please join us May 4-7, 2002 at the Renaissance Madison Hotel in Seattle for the AHP Pacific Region's regional conference, "Health Care Philanthropy: Life Boats in a Sea of Change." We'll explore charting new strategies, summoning the crew, using new tools and refocusing on vision and values for success in our New World of fundraising. Laura Rehrmann, CFRE, of Group Health Community Foundation in Seattle will chair the conference and Jon Olson, FAHP, of Swedish Medical Center Foundation in Seattle will serve as Education Chair. Laura and Jon urge you to mark your calendar and join them in this vibrant Pacific Rim city for a re-energizing professional experience.

Can Can Anyone?

The closing dinners at this summer's regional conference in Tucson was truly an evening to remember as John King and Jimmy Jones got in touch with their feminine side as they presented their version of the can can at the AHP Saloon. Words simply cannot describe it except to say that it definitely brought down the house!

Thank you to Gina Griesman, Conference Chair, and the entire conference committee for a wonderful educational event! And thank you John and Jimmy for being good sports!

The conference was also a financial success netting the region $9,626. A portion of the proceeds from the conference will be used to establish an educational endowment for AHP Pacific Region members.

New CFREs

Congratulations to Larry Baxter, Magic Valley Regional Medical Center Foundation in Twin Falls, ID; Jane Cuneo, Senior Development Officer at Sutter Hospitals Foundation in Sacramento, CA; and Carole Fish, Senior Managing Director of Philanthropy at Children's Hospital Foundation in San Diego, CA for receiving their CFRE designation. All AHP members are urged to participate in the certification process. The CFRE exam will be held at the regional conference in Seattle.
