  • Maggie was promoted from a Manager of Special Events role into a Director of Philanthropy position within two years of joining Dignity Health, based on her exceptional performance and potential as evidenced by consistent "Exceeds Expectations" rating on her annual evaluation
  • She donned PPE to voluntarily assist with non-clinical tasks on our patient care floors, where staff resources were strained to the breaking point.  She used her event-planning skills to organize a visit from a popular local fast food truck to feed 1,900 employees across both the day and night shifts
  • Maggie manages her organization’s fundraising event portfolio, raising a combined total of $1.2 million annually

Q & A

1. How did you get into healthcare philanthropy?

After interning at a nonprofit in San Diego right after college, I decided to move back to Los Angeles and worked in the corporate sales and events industry for many years. My long-term goal was always to pursue a career path with a mission-driven organization, so I decided to make the leap. I wanted to focus on helping my local community, and when I came across an opportunity at Dignity Health California Hospital, I knew I had to pursue it.
 

2. Tell us about a pivot point or crucial step in your career journey.

I’ve been very fortunate to have great mentors and leaders as I ramped up my career in philanthropy. After a few years in event fundraising, I had a wonderful promotional opportunity that allowed me to work with a wider range of donors and fundraising strategies. This really cemented my career and decision to stay in healthcare philanthropy.


3. What piece of advice would you give aspiring 40 Under 40 recipients?

Always be genuine, work hard, and find a mission you truly resonate with.

Over the past few years, I’ve become a huge football fan. I get very excited when football season rolls around and plan my weekend schedule around my team’s games. Go Vikings!
