Q & A

1. How did you get into healthcare philanthropy?

Working in philanthropy, I strongly believe it's imperative to work for causes that align with personal passion. I'd been in development for five years and was contemplating a career move, and the first place I looked was Sacred Heart Medical Center. They saved my life when my twins were born, took care of my kids for their first three weeks of their life in the NICU, and gave us years with my dad that we didn't expect to have when he was diagnosed with advanced heart failure. From my own experience, I knew how vital it was to have quality, compassionate health care in our community. I applied for the position and thankfully was hired, and I've been working for Providence ever since.

2. Tell us about a pivot point or crucial step in your career journey.

My passion for healthcare philanthropy was ignited the first time I met with a grateful patient and started focusing more on grateful patient philanthropy. Being able to hear and receive a patient's gratitude and then convey it to our Caregivers on the frontline continues to be a driving motivator in my work.

3. What piece of advice would you give aspiring 40 Under 40 recipients?

It's important to have goals, monitor key performance indicators, and hold yourself accountable. However, ultimately our success in philanthropy is determined by the quality of relationships we're able to develop. Be curious and be authentic.
